Is Cheap Title Talk In LaLiga Hurting or Helping Barcelona? Xavi Weighs In
Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has expressed his surprise and anger at the lack of credit his team is receiving as it races towards its first LaLiga title since 2019. After a goalless draw against Girona on Monday, Barcelona are now 13 points clear at the top of the table with 10 games to go.
The Catalan giants have won 25 of their 31 league matches this season, drawing five and losing only one, but despite their impressive form there’s still a belief that they’re not getting enough respect for their achievements this season. This is something that Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has taken issue with and he recently weighed in on the matter.
“I’m surprised and angry that some people don’t give us credit for what we’ve done,” said Xavi. “It’s easy to talk about things like luck when you don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. We work hard every day, and I’m proud of my players for all they’ve achieved.”
The former Spain international also believes that cheap talk about titles is detrimental to the team’s motivation and performance. “When people talk too much about titles, it can create an atmosphere where players are afraid to take risks or try new things,” said Xavi. “It can lead to a negative atmosphere which isn’t good for anyone involved.”
Xavi also believes that Barcelona should be treated just like any other club in LaLiga when it comes to title talk. “We should be treated the same as any other team in LaLiga,” he said. “We shouldn’t get special treatment because of our history or stature.” He added: “All teams should be judged fairly based on their performances and results, not just because of who they are.”
Despite Xavi’s insistence that cheap title talk can hurt Barcelona’s chances of success, he remains confident in his side’s ability to win the league this season. He pointed out that while it will be tough to win every game until the end of the season, his side have shown incredible resilience throughout this campaign so far.
“I’m sure there will be difficult moments ahead but I’m sure we’ll overcome them,” said Xavi confidently. He concluded: “Our players always show great character in difficult situations and I’m sure they’ll do everything possible to bring home a well-deserved LaLiga title wearing their beloved Barcelona jerseys.”
